The design of the Planter was inspired by the familiar shape of a grill, a common feature on many American patios. Made of ASA, a material known for its improved weather resistance properties, the Planter not only delivers the best growing experience, but also embraces cradle-to-cradle principles with its straw-based compostable seed trays and peat-free planter mix.

After interviewing 112 potential customers covering USDA hardiness zones with at least three growing seasons, Weiner and Martin crafted a rubric with requirements that touched on brand, features, assembly, shipping, and manufacturability. The result is a product that grows greens in a variety of outdoor conditions, maintains an elegant yet iconic aesthetic, and produces enough salads for a family to enjoy throughout the year with minimal labor.
